My family and I had a wonderful birthing experience with LeAnn as our doula. My first son was born three years ago and my husband and I didn’t realize at the time how “alone” we were at the hospital. Nurses/midwives came in and out but we were left by ourselves most of the time and had little knowledge of the many options and procedures that were presented to us. We decided with our second pregnancy that we wanted a doula to help us with the birth.
I met with LeAnn and instantly clicked and felt at ease. She took detailed notes about my first pregnancy and birth and asked me questions about my preferences and plan with my second. LeAnn checked in with me regularly via text and phone calls. She sent me several articles with the research on various topics relating to my pregnancy and birth plan. We met several times pre-birth to discuss labor options and plans. She helped us look at different scenarios for childcare options for our oldest child. LeAnn was always available, very knowledgeable and beyond supportive of everything relating to our pregnancy.
During labor, LeAnn joined us at the hospital. She was supportive and encouraging without being intrusive to the intimate moments between my husband and me. LeAnn helped us with natural pain management and took priceless photos for us. After my son was born, LeAnn stayed with us to talk me through the afterbirth process. She helped me to latch my baby and gave me helpful information about breastfeeding in the early days. LeAnn made sure my husband and I were settled in the family care unit before leaving.
LeAnn checked in daily for a week and came to visit me a couple of times after birth. She helped troubleshoot breastfeeding questions and also gave me great advice for baby wearing.
If you are considering hiring a doula, LeAnn in particular, DO IT! LeAnn’s calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge made her a vital part of my positive birthing experience.
